spoon sale / une vente de cuillères

Four eating spoons, all in walnut from the Corrèze in SW France. these are carved from a radial section of a large walnut trunk, so there are two colours of wood - the dark is the heartwood and the light is the sapwood.
All spoons are finished with a coat of walnut oil. Je les vernis d’une couche d’huile de noix.

These next five eating spoons are from wild or bird cherry, also from our weekend down in the Corrèze. This cherry is extremely hard, and has taken on a rich, almost apricot colour. Doubtless this will fade with time into a darker brown.
All spoons are finished with a coat of walnut oil. Je les vernis d’une couche d’huile de noix.

Spoon 3
an eating spoon in rowan wood, with a teardrop-shaped bowl and rounded-back handle.
18.5 cm long 50€ (includes postage worldwide)
This is the last of the gorgeous rowan wood that came from the north of England, that I got at Spoonfest this year. Rowan, or mountain ash only grows happily in northern climates, so I don't normally have any here in Brittany. It carves beautifully, dries very hard, and has the most wonderful grain contrast between the sapwood and the heartwood!
All spoons are finished with a coat of walnut oil. Je les vernis d’une couche d’huile de noix.
